The root canal pathway
Understand what happens inside the tooth.
The treatment removes infected tissue, cleans and shapes the root canal system, disinfects it, and seals it so the tooth can be retained.

Clean + shape
After the tooth is numb and isolated, infected tissue is removed and the canal system is carefully shaped and disinfected.

Fill + seal
The shaped canals are filled with a biocompatible material and the access opening receives a temporary filling.

Dr. Abtin completed his Graduate Endodontic program at UBC and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. His background also includes teaching at UBC and extensive community volunteer work.

Dr. Yip completed his specialty training and Master of Science in Craniofacial Science at UBC. He focuses on personalized, evidence-based care and helping patients save their natural teeth through gentle, effective treatment.

A calm appointment starts with knowing what to expect. These answers are condensed from the centre’s patient information.
The office takes measures to ensure treatment is comfortable. Local anesthetic is used to gently numb the treatment area, and numbness typically subsides after a few hours.
Many treatments can be completed in a single appointment of about one to two hours or less. More complex cases may require additional visits.
Yes. After root canal treatment, your family dentist determines the best final restoration for the tooth. The centre recommends having the tooth restored within one to three weeks.
The practice monitors healing after treatment and states that this follow-up service is included at no additional charge. The office will attempt to notify you when monitoring is appropriate.
